Il chiosco delle fenici

Ancona, Il lavoro editoriale, 2004

The matter under discussion of this work is the life and the history of Matteo Ricci, the Jesuit missionary who faced the Chinese world, almost unknown in its true essence. As a matter of fact, this book gives us a very exhaustive picture of China in the 17th and 18th centuries and provides us with many fundamental aspects regarding that world. Everything is explained through the story of Ricci’s adventures. Events are told with the technique of a story experienced, all of them are scientifically well-grounded with historical and bibliographic references. Their close considerations are housed in abundant notes; so there are no distractions or interruptions throughout our reading.
It’s important to underline the readability of this book, that is also suitable for readers who have to do with Matteo Ricci for the first time. Thanks to the narration of the Jesuit life, Mignini give a fresco of a world that unfortunately we know only superficially.
